Sunday Dinner - 03/28/10 (Birthday Edition)

Today is my birthday. Usually, the Big Man and I get a babysitter, go to the theater, and eat at fancy restaurant. But yesterday, Nanny Goat got married.

And after the excitement of that all I wanted to do is hang around the house. I decided to cook us an easy dinner that we all love.

This is not an old family recipe. In fact, I didn't eat Chicken Shawarma until I was in college. But we fell in love at first bite. And of course, what meal of Shawarma would be complete without hummus and dill yogurt dressing.

Chicken Shawarma
Ingredients
10 cloves garlic, chopped
2 lemons, juiced
1/2 cup olive oil
2 tsp curry powder
1 tsp salt
2 tsp ground pepper
2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts

Directions
Make the marinade: In a bowl, mix together the garlic, lemon juice, oil, curry powder, salt, and pepper.

Whisk to combine. Add chicken and coat with marinade.

Preheat a grill. Remove chicken from marinade. Grill chicken for about 10 minutes on each side or until fully cooked through.

Hummus
Ingredients
1 can chickepeas, drained
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp cumin

Directions
In a food processor, blend all ingredients together until smooth and creamy.

Yogurt Dressing
Ingredients
2tbsp lemon juice
1cup Greek yogurt
2tbsp parsley
1tbsp dill
salt, to taste
black pepper, to taste

Directions
In a bowl, combine the lemon juice, yogurt, parsley, dill, salt and pepper. Refrigerate, covered in plastic until ready to use.

Serve with pita and a salad of cucumber, tomatoes, and Romain.

First of all...happy birthday! (belated now)

This sounds like something even I couldn't screw up! Sounds amazing too! I can't see any of the pictures though! I'm not sure if it's just my work computer or what though because judging from the other comments, everyone else is! Weird!
