Rouge Orleans 2011

So. I may have lost my mind... I really want to run the 2011 Rouge Orleans ultra-marathon. Well, with a team of people. This is pure craziness. Because a full marathon scares the crap out of me. And I don't have a weekend to spend running down the levee. And I'm currently injured. And I'm sure what is going on in my life in the next 8-10mo.  But still, I really wanna. (said in whiny voice)

The website say it all.
The Rouge-Orleans is a 100+ mile Ultra-Marathon and Team Relay that  starts in the capital city of Baton Rouge and Finishes in Audubon Park in New Orleans. Participants will run on top of the levee and follow the mighty Mississippi as it meanders it’s way 124 miles down to New Orleans.  Running alongside old farms, plantations, sugarcane fields, swamps, and of course the river will give runners a chance to see Southern Landscapes at their purest.
Well, maybe not everything.

You  have to understand. I love the Mississippi River. I love running on it in the morning when the fog rolls in. It reminds me of all of the things I love about living in this area. The beauty, the decay. The industrial, the farmland, the swamp. But I've only ever run a 5mi stretch. I'd love to see the rest from something other than a car. And I've run Audubon Park so many times, I could run it backwards.

But the more you (I mean me) think about it, it's not really that crazy. This is how the website sells it. It is the most doable and definitely the most fun. Each member of the team will run 5 legs averaging around 4 miles per leg. As one person is running, the others are partying it up in the van. So basically, you run 4 miles rest 4.5hours. (I'm assuming my team runs as I do) Then run 4miles. rest 4.5hours over and over for 124miles. That's not impossible. It's not even unreasonable.

I guess for now I'm content to mildly cyber-stalk the Rouge Orleans. (This week I became a facebook fan and have stopped by the website everyday.) Unless anyone wants to be on my team. I have a spare room for any out of town teammates. Seriously.

I absolutely LOVE our relay we do in August, there's 10 of us that run 174 miles (last year took us 23 hours 13 minutes). I say you need to go for it! And I used to run along the Mississippi, too....but further North, in Davenport, IA :). Have a great weekend!

Okay - you are crazy LOL!

The relay doesn't sound so bad, but geez that's a long time for an event.

I definitely think you should do it. Then again I'm the race director and I want everyone to do it :):)
